General Product Support

Quick orientation for dealers, installers, designers, and customers who need to understand which DrapeMax resource or product category applies.

What is the difference between shade products and drapery?+

Shades are single products that cover the window. Drapery is a soft fabric system that requires decisions about fullness, header style, lining, returns, overlap, stackback, and how the panels open and stack.

Can DrapeMax give an exact price from the FAQ?+

The FAQ explains what affects price, but final pricing should be confirmed through the DrapeMax quoting process. Product type, fabric group, size, fullness, lining, controls, options, freight, and special construction can all change the final quote.

Can DrapeMax make a special size?+

Possibly. Workable size depends on product type, fabric, control system, construction, mount type, and the official product tables. For sizes outside standard limits or published tables, DrapeMax should review the request before confirming.

What information is needed before a quote or technical review?+

Please provide product type, fabric name and color, finished width and height, style or header, lining, control type, inside or outside mount, and any special requirements such as pattern placement, returns, motorization, or installation conditions.

Product Category

Drapery

Common questions about header styles, fullness, linings, sheers, side panels, returns, stackback, and construction.

Which drapery header styles does DrapeMax offer?+

DrapeMax offers grommet, back tab, pinch pleat, and ripple fold drapery headers. Pinch pleat can be made as French 2-finger or French 3-finger. Ripple fold requires compatible specialty track hardware.

What does fullness mean for drapery?+

Fullness is the relationship between the fabric width used and the finished coverage width. More fullness uses more fabric and creates deeper folds, more pleats, more carriers for ripple fold, and a larger stack when the drapery is open.

Is fullness calculated the same way for pinch pleat, grommet, back tab, and ripple fold?+

No. Pinch pleat fullness is sewn into fixed pleats, so the finished look is controlled by the workroom. Grommet and back tab panels are more like flat fabric panels that form folds on the rod, so the fullness is driven by the flat panel width compared with the opening. Ripple fold fullness is controlled by snap tape, carriers, and track spacing.

Is lining standard on draperies?+

Lining is standard on non-sheer draperies. Common lining choices include light filtering, LF Plus, thermal interlining, and blackout. Thermal interlining must be paired with a protective liner such as LF, LF Plus, or blackout.

Will blackout lining block all light?+

Blackout lining reduces light through the fabric, but it does not guarantee zero light around edges, returns, gaps, or installation openings. Total room darkening depends on product design, mount type, returns, overlap, and field conditions.

Do sheer draperies have weighted hems?+

Sheer fabrics can be ordered with a weighted Euro hem or a 4 inch double-turned bottom hem. When sheers are ordered with a 4 inch hem, corner weights are included.

What are standard drapery returns and overlap?+

The workroom typically adds 3 1/2 inch return and 3 1/2 inch overlap as standard unless custom sizes are specified. Custom return or overlap requests can affect price and should be confirmed in the quote.

What is the maximum drapery length?+

Most fabrics can be fabricated up to 225 inches. For 110 inch or 118 inch railroaded fabrics, the standard maximum height is 104 inches unless the fabric is rotated up the roll, which may create vertical seams hidden in the pleats.

What are board-mounted side panels?+

Board-mounted side panels are stationary decorative panels attached to a fabric-wrapped PVC foam board. They are not movable and are offered only in 20 inch or 40 inch widths, with height from 12 inches to 225 inches.

Can board-mounted side panels be shipped independently?+

No. Board-mounted side panels cannot be shipped independently. If shipping or project logistics are important, DrapeMax should review the order before confirming.

Roman Shades

Answers for Roman shade styles, liners, controls, measurements, fabric direction, pattern rules, and 2-on-1 construction.

What is the difference between Standard and Waterfall Roman shades?+

Standard Roman shades attach fabric behind the headrail and include a front valance to conceal components. Waterfall Roman shades attach fabric to the front of the headrail, fall over the front, and are made without a front valance. Inside waterfall shades include a back valance made from liner fabric at no charge.

What is the difference between Flat, Classic, and Hobbled styles?+

Flat Roman shades hang flat when closed and stack in even folds. Classic shades add sewn bars for more structure and are often recommended for solid fabrics. Hobbled shades create soft billowing folds, but not every fabric is available for hobbled construction.

How much extra is BO or blackout lining for Roman shades?+

For Roman shades, BO means blackout lining. A BO or blackout lining upgrade is a 10% surcharge. The final price still depends on fabric, size, shade style, control type, and other options.

Is blackout lining included on Roman shades?+

Many Roman shade price tables are based on LF Plus lining. BO or blackout lining is available as an upgrade with a 10% surcharge.

Will a blackout Roman shade make the room completely dark?+

Blackout lining blocks light through the shade fabric better than light-filtering lining, but it does not eliminate edge light. Outside mount, overlap, returns, and side-gap planning are important when the customer wants stronger room darkening.

How should inside-mount Roman shades be measured?+

Measure inside the frame at top, middle, and bottom for width, and at left, middle, and right for height. DrapeMax applies a total 1/4 inch width deduction for inside-mount Roman shade orders.

When is outside mount recommended for Roman shades?+

Outside mount is useful when the frame depth is limited, when multiple windows need to align at one height, when drilling into a frame is not preferred, or when better blackout coverage is desired. A flat mounting surface of at least 1 1/4 inches above the window is required for brackets.

What does fabric weight mean?+

Fabric weight means the fabric's heaviness or thickness, usually listed in ounces per square yard. It is not a Roman shade style, not a fullness value, and not a quality grade by itself.

What does railroaded fabric mean?+

Railroaded means the fabric is used sideways across the roll instead of in the regular up-the-roll direction. This affects pattern direction, seam planning, and usable width, so it should be noted before quoting or ordering.

Can any fabric be used for every Roman shade style?+

No. Some fabrics have restrictions for flat, classic, or hobbled styles. Pattern interruption, 54 inch fabric limits, sheer liner requirements, and fabric thickness can all affect which styles are available.

What is PI in Roman shade fabric rules?+

PI means pattern interruption. It indicates that a patterned fabric may not continue perfectly across every fold or section. Roman shade pattern matching is normally planned from the bottom upward unless a different alignment option is ordered.

Do some sheer Roman shade fabrics require a liner?+

Yes. Some sheers are marked LB, meaning they must be made with a light-filtering or blackout liner. The fabric applicability table should be checked before confirming the style and liner.

What Roman shade controls are available?+

Control options include manual cordless, manual chain, wand motor, rechargeable lithium battery motor, quiet lithium battery motor, AC motor, and 12V low-voltage motor. AC and 12V systems require electrician installation.

Can Roman shades be motorized and connected to smart home systems?+

Yes. DrapeMax offers battery motors and Wi-Fi hub options for smart integration such as Alexa and Google. For multiple floors, one Wi-Fi hub per floor is generally recommended.

What is Top-Down/Bottom-Up for Roman shades?+

Top-Down/Bottom-Up lets the shade lower from the top and raise from the bottom for privacy and light control. TDBU is cordless only, has a width range of 18 to 66 inches, and uses a 3 inch standard valance unless 5 inch or 7 inch is specified at order time.

Can two Roman shades be made on one headrail?+

Yes. The 2-on-1 option is available for standard Roman shade styles with flat, classic, or hobbled panels. Maximum total width is 108 inches, and the gap between the two shades will be no more than 1/2 inch.

Installer Troubleshooting

Field support answers for installer issues covered by DrapeMax technical support videos, including steaming preparation, Roman shade leveling, motors, and TDBU adjustments.

What should an installer do before steaming curtain fabric?+

Remove the top rail before steaming the curtain fabric. This lets the fabric be handled and finished properly without fighting the rail or hardware.

How do I pair and set travel limits for a lithium battery Roman shade motor?+

Pair the motor with the remote first, then set the upper and lower travel limits. Use the installer support video for the exact button sequence, and contact DrapeMax if the motor does not respond or the motor model is different.

How do I correct uneven left and right height on a motorized Roman shade?+

Adjust the cord positions on each side so the Roman shade raises and lowers evenly. Stop and contact DrapeMax if the cord, fabric, ring, or lift system appears damaged.

Can multiple motorized Roman shades be controlled together?+

Yes. Multiple Roman shade motors can be added to one control channel so they operate together. Confirm the remote channel and motor pairing before testing group operation.

How is a motor installed in a 38 mm tube?+

Install the drive wheel and motor into the 38 mm tube, then secure the motor with screws. Confirm that the motor, drive wheel, and tube size match before installation.

How do I adjust motor speed?+

Select the correct channel and use the remote-control button sequence shown in the installer support video. If the remote, motor brand, or motor model is different from the video, contact DrapeMax before changing settings.

What should be checked after Roman shade installation?+

Check that the shade is installed level, the mounting position is correct, the brackets and headrail are secure, and the fabric raises and lowers without rubbing or pulling unevenly.

How do I level the bottom rail on a cordless Roman shade?+

Adjust the cord position at the back of the cordless Roman shade to correct the uneven bottom rail. Make small adjustments and retest the shade movement.

How do I reduce rebound on a TDBU shade middle rail?+

Release excess tension in the constant-force spring to reduce middle rail rebound on a Top-Down/Bottom-Up shade. If rebound continues after adjustment, contact DrapeMax technical support.

How do I level an uneven TDBU middle rail?+

Move the cord position behind the shade to level the middle rail. Retest the Top-Down/Bottom-Up movement after adjustment and stop if the rail or cord does not move normally.

How do I install return ears on an outside-mount Roman shade template?+

Position the return ears on the side of the outside-mount template, wrap and seat the fabric return cleanly, then check that the side return sits straight and secure before final installation.

How should ripple fold drapery be installed on a track?+

Ripple fold, also called snake-style drapery, should be snapped onto the ripple carriers in sequence. Keep every snap and carrier in order so the waves stay even, then check that the ripple folds hang evenly across the track.

How do I fix bottom rail rebound on a cordless Roman shade?+

Locate the rebound adjuster, rotate it 90 degrees, and increase the resistance so the bottom rail does not bounce back. Stop and contact DrapeMax if the mechanism feels stuck or damaged.

How do I change the pull-cord side on a corded Roman shade?+

For a corded Roman shade, the pull-cord control side can be changed by rotating and removing the end plug, pulling out the control head, swapping the left and right brackets, then reinstalling the control head and end plug on the opposite side. Do not force any part; contact DrapeMax if the control head, bracket, or end plug feels stuck or damaged.

Cornices & Valances

Questions about board-mounted top treatments, valance styles, returns, miters, mounting, fabric direction, and size limits.

What is a cornice?+

A cornice is a board-mounted, padded fabric top treatment. It creates a structured upholstered top over a window treatment and is made with standard non-sheer DrapeMax fabrics and blackout lining.

What is the difference between a cornice and a valance?+

A cornice is built on a padded board. A valance can be made without a board for use with a customer-provided valance track and Velcro, or it can be made with a head board and fabric-wrapped returns.

Are cornices and valances recommended for outside mount?+

Yes. Board-mounted cornices and valances are recommended for outside mount. If inside mount is required for a board-mounted treatment, DrapeMax customer service should review it as a design modification.

What are standard cornice return sizes?+

The standard cornice return is 4 inches. Other available return sizes include 5 1/2 inches, 7 1/4 inches, and 9 1/4 inches. Non-standard return requests should be confirmed in the quote.

What are cornice size limits?+

Cornice size limits shown in the guide are minimum width 18 inches, maximum width 96 inches, minimum height 6 inches, and maximum height 30 inches.

What is a mitered cornice?+

A miter is used when cornices meet at a corner or bay. Any miter other than 90 degrees requires a template or exact drawing of the actual angle, plus measurements from the corner to where the cornice will end.

Are cornice fabrics railroaded?+

Most cornice and valance fabrics are railroaded as standard. Fabrics with a distinct vertical orientation may need to be cut and seamed instead.

How are cornices installed?+

Cornices are installed with DrapeMax-supplied L brackets. Standard wall-mount screws are 2 inches. Field conditions, inside mount, and angled conditions should be reviewed before confirming.

What are common duvet cover construction details?+

Duvet covers use non-sheer face fabric, premium brushed microfiber on the back, zipper closure, and four inner corner ties to help secure the insert.

Do pillow and sham sizes have tolerance?+

Yes. Sham and pillowcase sizes are approximate and may vary up to 1 inch due to fabric variation.

What is standard pillow construction?+

Standard pillow construction includes a 1/4 inch welt unless otherwise specified, an invisible zipper, and matching welting unless a different fabric choice is requested.

Can bedding be made in custom sizes?+

Custom sizes, especially bed skirt height or non-standard bedding dimensions, are quoted upon request and should be reviewed before ordering.

Fabric Program

Answers for fabric-only orders, yardage tiers, freight logic, fabric width, fabric weight, sheers, and pattern direction.

Can customers buy fabric only from DrapeMax?+

Yes. The fabric-only program lists fabrics by name, roll width, and quantity tier. Individual fabric-only orders by linear yard are quoted upon request because quantity and freight affect the final price.

How are fabric-only prices organized?+

Fabric tables are organized by fabric name, width, and yardage tier, including 30Y per SKU by air, 10Y per SKU by express, 5Y per SKU by express, and 3Y per SKU by express. Larger yardage normally has a lower per-yard price.

What freight surcharge applies when fabric ships with shades or draperies?+

For fabric shipped together with Roman shade or drapery orders, the guide lists freight surcharge bands: 1Y-3Y is $50, 4Y-5Y is $75, 6Y-10Y is $125, and 11Y-30Y is $450. Final freight should still be confirmed through the quote.

What does fabric width mean?+

Fabric width means the roll width, not the finished product width. Common widths include 118 inches, 114 inches, 110 inches, 104 inches, 98 inches, 94 inches, and 54 inches.

Why do 54 inch fabrics often need seams?+

A 54 inch fabric has a narrower roll width. When a product is wider than the usable width, seams may be required. Seam placement and pattern matching should be confirmed before quoting or ordering.

Are all sheer fabrics the same price group?+

No. Sheers are listed in different fabric-only tiers and widths. The exact fabric name, width, and quantity tier should be checked before quoting.

Can fabric composition affect product behavior?+

Yes. Polyester, linen, cotton, viscose, wool, silk, acrylic, and blends can behave differently in weight, hand, stack depth, wrinkling, and cleaning. Fabric composition should be considered with the selected product style.

Can the FAQ confirm fabric availability?+

The FAQ can explain fabric concepts and common rules, but final availability, freight, lead time, and exact price should be confirmed by the DrapeMax team.

Care, Warranty & Installation

General care, claim, motor, and installation boundaries that apply across DrapeMax soft treatments.

How should draperies be cleaned?+

Follow the sewn-in care label first. Some fabrics are water-wash while others are dry-clean only. Do not use aggressive cleaning methods unless they are approved for that fabric.

How should Roman shades be cared for?+

Minor wrinkles from shipping often relax after the shade hangs for a few days. Routine care can include dusting, gentle vacuuming with an upholstery attachment, steaming where appropriate, and professional upholstery cleaning for more extensive cleaning.

What if a product arrives damaged?+

Shipping damage should be reported quickly. The Roman shade warranty guidance states shipping damage must be reported within 7 calendar days or credit may be denied. Provide photos, order number, and line number to the DrapeMax team.

What does the Roman shade warranty generally cover?+

The Roman shade warranty applies to the original residential retail purchaser while the product remains in the original window. It covers manufacturing defects, with separate time periods for fabric and operation/functionality as stated in the guide.

What is not covered by warranty?+

Normal wear and tear, improper installation, misuse, accident, alterations, improper cleaning, pest damage, removal, transportation, re-measure, reinstallation, shipping, and incidental or consequential costs are examples of exclusions.

Can installers drill anywhere through a Roman shade headrail?+

No. Roman shade headrails include designated pre-drilled slots. Drilling through the headrail outside the designated slots can snag the fabric and is not covered by warranty.

Do AC and 12V Roman shade motors require an electrician?+

Yes. AC motors and hard-wired 12V low-voltage motors require electrician installation for final connection.

Where should customers send warranty photos?+

Warranty or claim photos should be sent with the order information to info@drapemax.com. Unauthorized claims are not accepted, and returns require authorization.
